Uyuni Salt Flats tour takes you to an out worldly attraction in Bolivia. This is the largest salt flat in the world. Stretching over 10,582 square kilometres, this surreal place is on every traveller’s bucket list.
Millions of years ago this was the site where Lago Michin flowed. It left behind these salt crystals. To locals, this is the place where heaven meets earth.
Although there are shorter tours to Uyuni Salt Flats. The three days tour is ideal. It takes you to some remote and astonishing sites. We start at the renowned train cemetery or cemeterio de trenes. It is a massive graveyard, of locomotives. A few years ago Bolivian government scrapped a project of building railway line. This was to enhance their trade relationship with neighbouring countries. They left these trains here whose shallowed bodies have been rusting with the winds blowing from the Salt Flats.
This tour takes you to more interesting sites like the Pink Lagoon or Laguna Colorada. It is home to the Pink Andean Flamingos. You will also be visiting some rock formations, different coloured lagoons and breathtaking landscapes along the way. Whats more? You will be spending a night in a hotel made entirely of salt blocks.

Take an unforgettable 3-day tour through the vast white salt flats of Uyuni, into the desert of southwest Bolivia… Visit tiny villages lost in the desert, multi-coloured lakes filled with flamingos, the Sol de Manana geyser, and thermal hot-springs. You can finish your tour at San Pedro de Atacama for an extra $10 USD!

We will start the Uyuni Salt Flats tour at 10:30 AM. Our first stop will be at train cemetery. Here we will spend some time so you can walk around and click photos in the hollowed locomotives.
Our next stop will be in a Colchani village. Its home to the salt miners. Here you will see some handicrafts made entirely of salt. You can also visit small stalls selling clothes made of llamas and alpaca wools.
From here, we will enter the salt flats of Uyuni. We will drive to Hotel Playa Blanca. This was made of salt blocks. Due to local regulations, the services were discontinued . It now serves as a museum. Here we will stop for lunch.
After lunch, we will drive you to an impressive island right in the middle of Uyuni Salt Flats, Isla Incahuasi (Cactus/Fish Island). Here you can hike up to the summit to see the enormity of the salt flats. You will also see some rock formations made of petrified coral and a giant cacti.
From here, we will drive through the salt flats. We will make several stops to get that perfect “perspective photo”. We will also stop to see the sunset.
Later, we will reach a hotel made entirely of Salt Blocks. You will be spending the night here.
At 0700 AM, after breakfast, we will start driving to the view point of an active volcano, Ollague Volcano (5840m). From here, we will drive southwards.
Along the way, we will stop to see some colourful lagoons. These lagoons are home to three species of flamingoes. The first stop will be at Laguna Cañapa, home to pink flamingoes. We will then stop at Laguna Hedionda for lunch. After lunch, we will stop at Laguna Chiarcota. This is home to altiplanic fauna and different types of birds.
From here, we will enter Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve. Home to some unique sights. Driving through the highest desert on earth, Desert Siloli at 4550 metres above the sea level, we will reach an area with stone formations. Here we will stop so that you can get the perfect photo with the iconic, “Stone Tree”.
From here we will drive to the Red Lagoon. We will be staying in a basic accommodation for the night near the lagoon.
At 0500 AM, after breakfast, we will drive to see the Geysers, Sol De Mañana (Morning Sun). Here you can walk alongside the fumaroles. Our next stop will be at a natural thermal bath. The temperature of water here is 35 degrees celsius.
From here, we will enter Dali desert. This is the place where the renowned Spanish painter, Salvador Dali got his inspiration for his work from the scattered boulders in the middle of the desert.
We will then visit the green lagoon. This nestles at the foot hills of Licancabur Volcano. This is close to the Chilean border.
We will then return to Uyuni. The route has some enchanting views. Namely, the valley of rocks. We will make several stops along the way.
We will then stop at San Cristobal village before returning to Uyuni at 0630 PM.
